Being a dialysis patient Do's and Don'ts

As a dialysis patient Do's and Don'ts

What to watch out for as a Dialysis patient:

1. As a dialysis patient your responsible for the control of your water intake. ( as per my Doctors instruction a water intake of 500ml per day is good enough). One must avoid to much consumption of water since your kidneys are not functioning will it will not excrete more from the body. To much water in the body will result to shortness of breathing due to more water will accumulate in your lungs. May result also to body part inflamation, swelling in the face, and in area in the lower part of the legs. To much water and toxins in the body will lead to high blood pressure

2. Refrain from eating foods with too much phosphorus contents. This will affect the calcium in your body which could result into several bones complications.

3. Avoid eating foods or control eating foods rich in potassium. This may lead to cardiac complications.

4. Regular dialysis a minimum of 3 to 4 hours  every after 3 days is most Doctors recommended.

5. Monthly blood analysis - so that you will know what is the status of your body
with respect to phosphorus, calcium, potassium, sugar etc. This will give you        awareness on what you need to control in eating.

6. Always monitor your blood count - this is often the cause of weakness among dialysis patient. Kidneys affects the normal production of  blood that is why blood count decreases.

7. Monitor your blood pressure always - rise of blood pressure often cause by embalance in the body like if you are consuming too much potassium it will result to high blood pressure. Eating too much salts or foods contains too much salt.

8. Eating foods rich in iron will help you control the fall of your blood hemoglobin. Eating lever and apple are mostly recommended for patients having dialysis.

9. After a dialysis session - do not understimate yourselfs stability. If you are feeling dizy you must take rest for a little while. If you are unstable and feeling week : eating and taking foods ( drinking softdrinks, sweet candies,or A teaspoon of honey) with more sugar can help you restore your strength.

10. If you are working - see to it that started in dialysis normal if possible you will finish dialysis session normal. This has got to do with some adjustments in the machine and taking note of you body's ability to tolerate the procedure. Talk to your Doctor if you are experiencing any difficulties.
