Function of Potassium in our body?

It has a very vital role in every  heartbeat. A hundred thousand times a day, it helps trigger our heart to squeeze blood through your body.

It also helps our muscles to move, your nerves to work, and our kidneys to filter our blood.

Foods that are rich on Potassium:

Potatoes

Tomatoes

Avocados

Fresh fruits (bananas, oranges, and strawberries)

Orange juice

Dried fruits (raisins, apricots, prunes, and dates)

Spinach

Beans and peas

Normal range of Potassium is between 3.6 and 5.2 millimoles per liter (mmol/L) of blood. A potassium level higher than 5.5 mmol/L is critically high, and a potassium level over 6.0 mmol/L can be life-threatening. This condition is dangerous, and requires prompt medical attention to prevent potential complications.

While potassium is indeed important, having too much can be just as bad or worse than not getting enough of the nutrient. Hyperkalemia is a condition that occurs when your blood contains too much potassium.

Most common cause of high potassium are:

1. Kidney failure : When your kidneys fail, they can’t remove extra potassium from the body. This can lead to potassium buildup.

2  Heavy alcohol or drug use - can cause your muscles to break down. This breakdown can release a high amount of potassium into your blood from your muscle cells.

Low-potassium foods (less than 250 mg/serving): White bread and rice; some fruits like apples, berries, grapes, pears and peaches; some vegetables, such as asparagus, green beans, cooked carrots and cabbage, cauliflower, corn, and eggplant; poultry, tuna and eggs.

High-potassium foods (at least 250 mg/serving): wholegrain breads, wheat bran and granola; peanut butter; fruits like apricots, bananas, melon, mango, oranges and pears; vegetables like potatoes, tomatoes and tomato sauces, parsnips, cooked spinach and broccoli, and raw carrots; milk and yogurt. -

Here are the things to do:

1 Avoid eating all the foods that are high in Potassium (this will lower your Potassium gradually)

2  For people with very critical very  high Potassium level, Here what you can try doing:
          a. Take atleast  25ml pure honey 3 times a day
          b. Descipline your eating habits - stop eating foods high in Pottasium, instead eat "only apple" eat apple 2 hrs after meal.
          d. Drinks - avoid drinking softdrinks, drink only green tea and water for a week.
          c. And a half hour walking exercise each day
